Dubai's Dom Art Gallery makes its Tokyo Gendai debut

First international art fair participation showcases works by Kirill Makarov

DUBAI, DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, September 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Dom Art Gallery presents a solo booth by Kirill Makarov (b.1988) at Tokyo Gendai art fair, taking place from 10-13 September 2026. Working across figurative painting and digital media, Makarov explores the relationship between virtual and physical environments through immersive compositions that combine traditional painting with ultraviolet printing, augmented reality, and video games.

For Dom Art Gallery’s first time participating at Tokyo Gendai, the works by Makarov will bring together the historical language of figurative painting—classical spatial construction, the human figure, and the legacy of late modernist and impressionistic approaches to linear perspective—with the perceptual logic of the post-digital condition. Traditional painterly conventions are intersected by visual structures and distortions derived from contemporary screen culture, producing a hybrid pictorial space in which art-historical modes of representation coexist with the fragmented optics of digital media.

His practice moves fluidly between the histories of painting and the visual languages through which we increasingly experience the world today, opening up questions around how images are constructed, mediated and perceived. We hope that presenting his work in Tokyo will introduce his practice to new audiences and situate it within a wider international context.”

Kirill Makarov is a painter and multimedia artist whose practice synthesises figurative painting with digital media—including computer graphics, ultraviolet print, augmented reality, and game-based environments. He explores the dynamic relationships between humans, images, and machines, creating hybrid spaces where traditional painting converges with digital representation and visual technologies.

Dom Art Gallery is the commercial arm of Dom Art Projects, a private cultural institution based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists, with a particular focus on underrepresented artistic practices, geographies, and cultural contexts.

Looking ahead, Dom Art Gallery will present Agony in the Garden (2026), a new sculpture by Elena Nemkova at Frieze Sculpture, London. Conceived as a gesture of hope and reconciliation, the work reflects on resilience, perception, and the relationship between nature and the urban landscape. The presentation is supported by the Mtec Bursary, awarded by Mtec Fine Art to Dom Art Gallery and Elena Nemkova.
